Strengthening Bilateral Security Cooperation
In a significant move to enhance security collaboration, Abdelatif Hammouchi, the Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance in Morocco, welcomed Tomasz Siemoniak, Poland’s Minister Delegate to the Prime Minister responsible for the coordination of security services and special agencies. This high-level meeting took place in Rabat, where Siemoniak was accompanied by a distinguished delegation, including the Polish Ambassador to Morocco. The primary focus of their discussions revolved around fortifying the security partnership between Morocco and Poland, addressing vital areas that require attention and cooperation.
Addressing Mutual Security Challenges
During the bilateral discussions, a wide array of topics of mutual concern was tackled, particularly the need for improved coordination and information exchange regarding illegal migration, border security, and operational collaboration. Both parties recognized the importance of mutual technical assistance in combating organized crime and terrorism, alongside exploring collaborative efforts in various scientific and technical police specialties. The meeting also provided a platform for examining the challenges posed by global and African terrorist threats. The officials exchanged insights on high-risk security threats prevalent in regions such as the Sahel, the Sahara, and the Horn of Africa, areas recognized as emerging hotspots for terrorist activities that threaten global security.
Emphasizing the value of this partnership, Polish security authorities acknowledged Morocco as a reliable and essential ally in the ongoing fight against terrorism and organized crime. To further solidify this alliance, Hammouchi and Siemoniak agreed to facilitate an upcoming visit by Poland’s head of internal security to Morocco. This visit aims to establish a structured institutional framework formalizing the security partnership between the two nations.
This high-level meeting not only underscores the commitment of both countries to enhance their security cooperation but also highlights various South-South and regional initiatives launched under the leadership of King Mohammed VI. These initiatives position Morocco as a pivotal force for stability, progress, and peace within the Euro-African region. The discussions held during this meeting pave the way for promising opportunities that will significantly bolster the security landscape for both Morocco and Poland.
