Morocco and UAE Forge Stronger Ties with New Human Rights Agreement

Strengthening Bilateral Cooperation on Human Rights

In a significant move towards enhancing bilateral relations, Morocco and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) formalized a memorandum of understanding on Wednesday in Rabat, aimed at bolstering cooperation in the realm of human rights. The agreement was officially signed by Morocco’s Ministerial Delegate for Human Rights, Mohamed El Habib Belkouch, and UAE Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Noura bint Mohammed Al Kaabi. This important ceremony was attended by the UAE Ambassador to Morocco, Al Asri Saeed Ahmed Al Dhaheri, highlighting the significance of the occasion.

The signing of this memorandum follows a recent visit by a delegation from the UAE Permanent Committee for Human Rights to Morocco on June 10 and 11. The primary objective of this agreement is to enhance the institutional capacities of both nations and foster a deeper collaboration on various human rights issues. Moreover, the memorandum aims to develop partnership mechanisms between the two countries by advocating for cooperation among national entities responsible for the implementation, reporting, and oversight of human rights commitments.

Enhancing Dialogue and Coordination

Furthermore, the memorandum outlines provisions for an exchange of views and enhanced bilateral coordination in regional and international human rights forums. During a press conference, Belkouch emphasized that this meeting represents a crucial platform for expanding diverse forms of cooperation in human rights. He mentioned the potential for exchanging expertise, organizing official visits, and improving advocacy efforts in front of international bodies. Additionally, the agreement aims to facilitate the coordination of positions and the development of structured programs addressing priority issues at both regional and international levels.

Al Kaabi also spoke on the significance of this memorandum, describing it as a pivotal step in reinforcing the strong ties between Abu Dhabi and Rabat. She elaborated that the agreement is designed to bolster human rights initiatives across various fields while promoting knowledge sharing and the exchange of expertise. Al Kaabi expressed optimism that this partnership would lead to the establishment of stronger regional and international collaborations in human rights.

Under the terms of the memorandum, both parties are set to organize a variety of events, including conferences, seminars, roundtable discussions, and training sessions. The agreement also encompasses field visits, exchanges of experiences, and the preparation of studies and research, all aimed at cultivating a robust culture of human rights within both nations.
