Significant Observer Accreditation for 2026 Elections
In a crucial step towards ensuring the integrity and transparency of the upcoming legislative elections scheduled for September 23, 2026, the Special Committee for the Accreditation of Election Observers has granted approval to a total of 3,006 observers. This diverse group will represent various stakeholders, including the National Human Rights Council (CNDH), a multitude of Moroccan civil society organizations, and numerous international bodies. The decision was formalized during two critical meetings held on September 4 and September 7 at the CNDH headquarters in Rabat, under the leadership of Amina Bouayach.
The accreditation process has seen the involvement of 26 Moroccan non-governmental organizations and one national institution, alongside 30 international organizations. The observers include 783 representatives from the CNDH and 2,023 individuals from Moroccan NGOs. Their role will be to monitor the electoral process impartially and independently, adhering strictly to the established legal framework.
International Participation and Training Initiatives
In addition to the domestic observers, 200 observers from 20 international and regional organizations, along with 10 diplomatic missions accredited in Morocco, will also participate in the election monitoring. These international observers hail from diverse geographical regions including Africa, Europe, the Americas, and Asia. They are set to engage in briefing sessions on the legal framework governing the election process, commencing on September 20, prior to their deployment across Morocco's 12 regions.
Moreover, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe dispatched a pre-electoral mission to Morocco from August 31 to September 2, aiming to assess the preparations for the upcoming vote. This delegation engaged with various governmental departments, national institutions, civil society representatives, media entities, and members of the diplomatic community to ensure comprehensive oversight.
To effectively prepare for their roles, a significant number of 1,313 observers underwent thorough training sessions organized by the CNDH. These sessions took place at 33 centers located in 23 cities throughout the Kingdom’s 12 regions, equipping the observers with the necessary skills and knowledge for their important task.
