Severe Weather Forecast for Morocco
In a significant weather update, Morocco's General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) has issued a warning regarding incoming thunderstorms, potential hail, and strong winds expected to impact various regions throughout the day. The forecast indicates a notable drop in temperatures particularly affecting the Eastern region, the Middle Atlas, and the southeastern areas of the country. Residents in these regions should prepare for possible adverse weather conditions that could disrupt daily activities.
The DGM has specifically highlighted the risk of thunderstorms accompanied by hail in the Atlas Mountains and adjacent western territories, extending to the eastern highlands and southeastern locales. Meanwhile, other regions, including the northern and central Atlantic plains as well as the Rif mountains, are forecasted to experience predominantly clear to partly cloudy skies, with scattered showers occurring in select areas.
Furthermore, low cloud formations and fog patches are anticipated along sections of the Atlantic coast during morning and evening hours, which may affect visibility. Wind conditions are predicted to be moderate to fairly strong in the Sahara provinces, with localized dust storms expected in certain areas. While temperatures are set to decrease in the Eastern region and the Middle Atlas, they are expected to remain stable or increase slightly elsewhere in the country.
Regional Temperature Overview
As we look at the temperature forecast, it’s evident that several cities are anticipated to experience daytime highs surpassing 25°C. Notably, Es-Semara is projected to reach 31°C, with Aousserd leading with a forecasted maximum of 33°C. Other cities such as Taounate and Laayoune are expected to see temperatures around 29°C, while Tangier and Fez will reach 28°C. In Morocco’s key urban centers, Rabat and Casablanca are likely to experience temperatures of 25°C, followed closely by Oujda and Marrakech at 26°C, and Agadir at 24°C.
Mountainous regions will, however, be significantly cooler, with Ifrane reporting minimums of 7°C and maximums reaching only 16°C. Midelt will also see similar patterns, with temperatures varying from 12°C to 19°C. On the maritime front, sea conditions are predicted to remain calm to slightly rough in the Mediterranean and the Strait of Gibraltar, while areas south of Mehdia may experience moderate waves.
