Morocco Announces Start of Rabi’ al-Thani
In a significant announcement, Morocco's Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs has declared that Sunday, September 13, will mark the beginning of Rabi’ al-Thani, 1448 in the Islamic lunar calendar. This decision comes after the ministry's diligent monitoring of the crescent moon on the evening of Friday, which corresponds to the 29th of Rabi’ al-Awwal. Despite their thorough efforts, the crescent moon was not sighted, leading to the conclusion that Rabi’ al-Awwal would complete a full 30 days.
The Ministry has taken steps to ensure accuracy and reliability in the moon-sighting process by coordinating with Islamic affairs representatives across the country. This inclusive approach extends to the Royal Armed Forces units responsible for moon-sighting, all of whom confirmed the absence of the crescent. Consequently, the Islamic community will begin observing Rabi’ al-Thani, the fourth month of the Islamic calendar, starting on Sunday. This practice of determining the start of Islamic months through official moon-sighting is a long-standing tradition in Morocco, reflecting the nation's commitment to maintaining religious observance in accordance with lunar cycles.
