Significant Growth in Moroccan Cucumber Exports

In a remarkable achievement, Morocco has significantly boosted its cucumber exports to the German market for the 2025/2026 season, as reported by the specialized fruit and vegetable market platform, EastFruit. Between July 2025 and March 2026, Germany imported an impressive 3,900 tons of Moroccan cucumbers, generating revenue exceeding 8 million euros. This figure represents a 10% increase compared to the previous season and is 28 times greater than the exports recorded in the 2021/2022 season.

Year-Round Demand and Strategic Export Shifts

The demand for Moroccan cucumbers in Germany remains robust throughout the year, peaking between November and February. Notably, December 2025 witnessed particularly high import levels, nearing 1,000 tons in just one month. While Spain and the Netherlands continue to dominate the market as the top suppliers, accounting for over 80% of Germany's cucumber imports, Morocco is steadily enhancing its direct presence. The official market share has risen from 0.5% last season to 0.8% during the first nine months of the 2025/2026 season.

Interestingly, the actual quantities exported may be even higher than the official statistics suggest, as a portion of Moroccan cucumbers is transferred to Spain before being re-exported to other European countries, including Germany. This trend reflects a significant shift in Morocco's export strategy, as Moroccan exporters increasingly aim to bypass intermediaries and European distribution centers. By establishing direct access to Northern European markets, they are not only strengthening their presence but also enhancing profit margins.

This success of Moroccan cucumbers further underscores the positive results of Morocco's agricultural sector, particularly following record exports during the 2024/2025 season.
