Morocco Emerges as a Key Player in Renewable Energy Sector

Morocco's Renewable Energy Ambitions

According to a special analysis by the Belgian publication Business AM, Morocco is solidifying its position as a pivotal player in the renewable energy sector, driven by its national energy transition strategy. The analysis highlights how the Kingdom is effectively combining its substantial solar and wind potential with significant structural projects such as the Noor Ouarzazate complex and the expansion of the MASEN agency. This initiative is part of a long-term energy sovereignty policy aimed at ensuring the country’s energy independence.

The publication emphasizes Morocco's commitment to a profound transformation of its energy mix, targeting an ambitious goal of achieving 52% renewable energy by 2030 and as much as 70% by 2050. Notably, the installed capacity has already surpassed 5.5 GW, and the country continues to attract international investment against the backdrop of a global energy market reconfiguration and Europe's search for more stable and proximate energy suppliers.

Strategic Focus on Green Hydrogen

Business AM also sheds light on Morocco's strategic focus on green hydrogen, with large-scale projects aimed at the production of green ammonia, sustainable steel, and industrial fuels. This vision is further complemented by the modernization of key port infrastructures such as Tangier Med and Jorf Lasfar, reinforcing Morocco's ambition to establish itself as an energy hub bridging Africa, Europe, and the Atlantic.
