Morocco Takes the Lead in Processed Sardine Exports

In a significant development for the food industry, Morocco has been recognized as the world's top exporter of processed sardines. Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour, emphasized this achievement during a recent parliamentary session, highlighting the remarkable growth of the country's food manufacturing sector, which now employs over 210,000 skilled individuals. This announcement underscores Morocco's evolving position in the global food market, showcasing its capability to compete with international brands in various sectors, including dairy products and biscuit manufacturing.

Government Initiatives to Boost Industrial Growth

During the session, Minister Mezzour addressed various challenges faced by struggling industrial zones, noting that efforts are ongoing to revitalize several projects hindered by diverse factors. Furthermore, he discussed the government's commitment to regulating electronic cigarette usage, acknowledging the health risks associated with smoking and outlining measures taken to address these concerns. This includes establishing standards for e-cigarettes and creating a legal framework to protect minors while informing consumers about the risks of such products.

Additionally, the minister announced the government's introduction of a new program aimed at supporting small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to help them navigate financial crises. This initiative is part of a broader industrial policy that seeks to integrate unstructured activities into the formal economy by creating industrial zones. Notably, over 2,000 industrial areas have been established in the Casablanca region, with more than 7,000 across other regions, aimed at integrating and supporting local manufacturers.
