Morocco Enhances Tourism Initiatives in Hong Kong to Attract Chinese Visitors

In a strategic move aimed at bolstering its tourism sector, Morocco's National Tourism Office (ONMT) has amplified its promotional efforts in Hong Kong to attract a greater influx of Chinese visitors. This initiative underscores the country's rich cultural heritage, exceptional travel experiences, and improving air connectivity with China. The recent promotional campaign featured a business luncheon and B2B networking event that successfully brought together approximately 30 tour operators and travel agencies from Hong Kong. This event was orchestrated by ONMT's Beijing office in collaboration with the Moroccan Embassy in China and Morocco's Honorary Consulate in Hong Kong.

Morocco Aims for a Surge in Chinese Tourist Arrivals

The event served as a platform to highlight Morocco's extensive tourism offerings, with ONMT spotlighting the nation's historical sites, cultural vibrancy, luxurious experiences, and increasing flight connections as pivotal factors for future tourism expansion. Morocco’s Ambassador to China, Abdelkader El Ansari, revealed that the number of Chinese tourists visiting Morocco had nearly doubled within two years, escalating from around 107,000 in 2023 to approximately 200,000 in 2025. El Ansari expressed Morocco's ambition to host 500,000 Chinese visitors in the forthcoming years, with an ultimate goal of reaching one million by the onset of the next decade. He emphasized that Morocco's political stability, security, expanded direct air routes, diverse tourism offerings, and continuous promotional activities are positioning the country as an increasingly appealing destination for Chinese travelers.

Fostering Enduring Partnerships in the Chinese Tourism Market

During the event, ONMT representative Otman Mazouz articulated that the gathering in Hong Kong is part of a comprehensive strategy to enhance Morocco's visibility among Chinese travel professionals and to forge long-lasting partnerships with prominent tour operators. He pointed out that Morocco's unique blend of authenticity, cultural legacy, and high-end tourism experiences resonates with the growing demand from Asian travelers for distinctive and niche travel experiences. Participants also acknowledged the significant potential within the Hong Kong outbound travel market, where affluent tourists are increasingly pursuing cultural, luxury, and experiential vacations, including golf tourism and thrilling desert adventures. Furthermore, Morocco is positioning itself as a versatile destination that can be seamlessly integrated into multi-country travel itineraries spanning Europe and the Middle East, thus providing a richer regional experience for travelers. The Hong Kong event is a key component of ONMT’s larger roadshow across major outbound tourism hubs in China, including Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, and Guangzhou, as Morocco endeavors to enhance its footprint within the Chinese market and maintain its growth trajectory in visitor arrivals.
