Morocco Faces Injury Concerns Ahead of World Cup Opener Against Brazil

The Moroccan national football team is currently facing significant concerns regarding the potential injuries of key players Abdessamad Ezzalzouli and Noussair Mazraoui, both of whom may miss the team's opening match in the FIFA World Cup against Brazil this coming Sunday. The apprehension stems from their early exits during the recent 1-1 draw against Norway, which marked the team's final friendly match before the tournament kicks off later this week across Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

Ezzalzouli left the field during halftime due to a leg injury, while Mazraoui was forced to exit in the 29th minute due to a shoulder issue sustained from a strong challenge during a tough match where Morocco initially surprised their opponent with an early goal, only for Norway to equalize with fifteen minutes remaining. Coach Mohammed Wahbi expressed to reporters that despite not securing a victory, the team left a positive impression as they showcased some remarkable performances against a very strong competitor. He emphasized the importance of facing such formidable teams and acknowledged the challenges posed by making numerous changes to the lineup, with a total of ten substitutions. Wahbi noted, "It is crucial to give all players a chance to participate. Unfortunately, two players had to leave due to injuries, and we are awaiting updates on the severity of their conditions. I am extremely worried about this situation."

Morocco reached the semifinals in the last World Cup edition held in Qatar and is hopeful of delivering another strong performance in the 2026 finals. The Moroccan team will begin their matches in Group C against Brazil, the five-time world champions, at the venue in New Jersey, New York.
