Morocco Foils Mass Attempt to Cross into Ceuta
On Saturday, Moroccan authorities successfully thwarted a mass attempt by hundreds of undocumented migrants to cross from the city of Fnideq towards the Spanish-administered enclave of Ceuta in northern Morocco. Reports from Anadolu Agency indicate that law enforcement effectively prevented these migrants, primarily hailing from African nations, from approaching the border crossing between Fnideq and Ceuta. The migrants were reportedly confined to the nearby mountains and elevated areas due to a significant security presence that obstructed their passage.
Local authorities, along with security personnel, detained several migrants involved in the crossing attempt. In recent days, Morocco has amplified its security measures in Fnideq, coinciding with intensified searches and heightened security alerts in the city. This thwarted crossing attempt occurred on a date that the Moroccan Ministry of Interior had identified as one during which it had detected anonymous calls on social media platforms encouraging illegal mass crossings towards Ceuta and Melilla.
