In a significant move reflecting the strengthening diplomatic relations between Morocco and the United States, the North African nation has officially named its expansive 1,055-kilometer highway after former U.S. President Donald Trump. This infrastructure project, known as the "President Donald J. Trump Highway," runs along the picturesque Atlantic coast, commencing from Tiznit in the north and traversing through key locations such as Guelmim, Tan-Tan, Laayoune, and Boujdour, ultimately leading to Dakhla. The highway, which was previously identified as the Tiznit-Dakhla expressway, symbolizes Morocco's commitment to modernizing its transportation infrastructure and enhancing economic ties with sub-Saharan Africa.
Inaugurated fully in January 2025 after years of construction, the highway is part of Morocco's broader initiative aimed at bolstering regional safety, facilitating trade, and connecting with the anticipated Dakhla Atlantic Port.
