New Cigarette Pricing in Morocco Marks Significant Changes
In a significant development for the tobacco market in Morocco, the government has officially introduced a new pricing structure for various cigarette brands, which is expected to impact consumer habits and market dynamics. This decision, enacted by Nadia Fettah, the Moroccan Minister of Economy and Finance, follows a comprehensive review of cigarette prices, which was published in the official government gazette. The move indicates a thorough adjustment within this sensitive sector, opening the door to a series of market changes.
The revised pricing list includes well-known cigarette brands, with notable increases in prices. For instance, the price for a pack of "CASA" has been set at 31.5 dirhams, while "Marquise Classic" is priced at 31 dirhams, and "Marvel" at 31.5 dirhams. Such adjustments in pricing are part of the regular periodic review that the government applies to the tobacco sector to ensure compliance with current economic conditions.
Adjustments Affecting Popular Brands
The new pricing structure also affects several other brands. The prices for "Clois" cigarettes have been standardized, with "Clois Classic," "Clois Filter," and "Clois Light" remaining at 28 dirhams per pack. In the premium segment, the prices for "Camel Activate" and "Camel Double Activate" have been established at 36 dirhams. This decision is grounded in Decree No. 2.03.199, issued on May 22, 2003, which pertains to the implementation of Law No. 46.02 regarding raw and manufactured tobacco, as well as subsequent amendments through various decrees.
The Ministry of Economy and Finance has clarified that this review process follows Regulation No. 771.13, which was approved on March 1, 2013, concerning the approval of manufactured tobacco sales prices to the public. This continuous evaluation and adjustment reflects the government's responsiveness to changing market conditions and its commitment to regulating the tobacco industry effectively.
