Morocco and Israel: Strengthening Discreet Ties
According to Daniel Rouach, the Vice President and co-founder of the Morocco-Israel Chamber of Commerce, the relations between Morocco and Israel are advancing discreetly. Rouach expressed concerns regarding the potential risks of an accelerated evolution of these ties, which were officially restored on December 10, 2020, between Rabat and Tel Aviv. In an interview with an Israeli media outlet, he acknowledged the "popular pressure in Morocco," which generally opposes Israeli policies in the Palestinian territories. However, this opposition has not hindered the ongoing military and security cooperation between the two nations, further solidified by an agreement signed in November 2021 in Rabat.
Despite the ongoing conflict in Gaza, Rouach indicated that Moroccan ministers have assured him of the kingdom’s determination to "not backtrack." He emphasized that Moroccans have adhered to the framework agreement established with the Israelis, pointing out that this commitment is truly remarkable. Daniel Rouach, originally from Morocco, played a pivotal role in the launch of the Israel-Morocco Chamber of Commerce in January 2021, which aims to invigorate bilateral economic exchanges.
