Morocco's Role in Enhancing Peace and Security in Africa
On July 11 and 12, 2026, Morocco actively participated in the second Political Conference in Mombasa, Kenya, which focused on the intricate relationship between peace, security, and development. Leading the Moroccan delegation was Ambassador Mohamed Arrouchi, the Kingdom's permanent representative to the African Union and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa. This conference is a continuation of the first Political Conference held in Tangier from October 25 to 27, 2022, which culminated in the adoption of the Tangier Declaration.
The Tangier Declaration established a comprehensive African vision regarding the interconnectedness of peace, security, and development. It emphasizes the need for coordinated public policies, strengthened partnerships, and the execution of actionable projects aimed at fostering lasting peace and security across the continent. Currently, the Tangier Process is solidifying its position as the primary dialogue platform in Africa, addressing the interdependence of these critical areas and involving key continental and international partners committed to this agenda.
Noteworthy partners in this initiative include the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, the United Nations Development Programme, the African Export-Import Bank, and the African Development Bank. The primary goal of this second conference is to evaluate the progress made since the adoption of the Tangier Declaration and to identify operational approaches that can further enhance the nexus between peace, security, and development in Africa.
