Morocco Attends the Lumière Summit in France
On Monday, Morocco took part in the Lumière Summit held in Saint-Paul-de-Vence, France. This event marks the first international summit dedicated to the future of cinema and moving images, co-chaired by the President of France and the President of South Korea. A joint statement from the Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication, along with the Moroccan Cinematic Center, highlighted that the summit brought together approximately 200 public officials, business leaders, creators, producers, distributors, representatives from digital platforms, video game industry professionals, emerging technology stakeholders, and representatives from international organizations, hailing from over 60 countries across five continents.
Morocco's participation was underscored by the presence of Abdel Aziz Boujdaini, the Secretary-General of the Communication Sector, and Rida Benjelloun, the Director of the Moroccan Cinematic Center. Their attendance reflects Morocco's ongoing commitment to international cooperation in the fields of cinema, audiovisual arts, and moving images. Additionally, the country's involvement showcases its desire to engage in international dialogue focused on collaboration and the promotion of cultural diversity.
Furthermore, the statement noted that Morocco has joined the Lumière Alliance as a founding member. This alliance is set to be the first global network uniting national cinematic institutions from around the world, facilitating the exchange of experiences, best practices, and insights regarding the significant challenges faced by the film industry. Morocco aims to contribute its expertise and experience, as well as its strategic position as a crossroads between Africa, the Arab world, the Mediterranean region, and Europe.
Morocco will also participate in the 'IRIS' program (the International Initiative for the Resilience of Independent Cinemas), along with an experimental program focused on image education.
