Severe Weather Alert Issued in Morocco
As the summer heat continues to intensify, Morocco is bracing for a significant heat wave combined with thunderstorms that are expected to affect several provinces from Sunday through Tuesday. The General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) has issued an orange-level weather alert, indicating that temperatures could soar between 42°C to 46°C in various regions, particularly in Assa-Zag, Tata, Boujdour, Oued Ed-Dahab, Aousserd, Es-Semara, and Zagora. In addition to these extreme temperatures, many other provinces will also experience elevated temperatures ranging from 38°C to 42°C, including Tan-Tan, Skhirate-Temara, Khemisset, and more.
Thunderstorm Forecast and Potential Hazards
Furthermore, the DGM has warned of thunderstorms, which may be accompanied by hail and gusty winds, particularly in provinces such as Azilal, Boulemane, and Marrakech, among others. These thunderstorms are anticipated to occur on Sunday between 2 p.m. and 11 p.m., with predicted rainfall totals ranging from 25 to 35 millimeters. The combination of extreme heat and thunderstorms poses potential risks, including flash flooding and wind damage, which residents should prepare for in the coming days.
