Morocco's Commitment to Palestinian Rights
On Thursday, September 24, 2026, in New York, Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita reiterated the unwavering commitment of Morocco, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, to support the Palestinian cause. Addressing the annual coordination meeting of foreign ministers from member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which coincided with the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, Bourita emphasized Morocco's dedication to preserving the historical and legitimate rights of the Palestinian people. He stated that, in light of alarming and dangerous developments in the region, Morocco will continue to advocate for a resolution that allows for an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. Bourita highlighted that achieving peace is essential to combat the rising threats of hatred and extremism, paving the way for a Middle East where the peoples of the region can live in security, peace, and stability. He pointed out that the Palestinian issue remains the foremost and central concern for the Islamic nation, particularly as Israel's systematic military aggressions against Palestinian communities in Gaza persist, along with the expansion of settlements in the West Bank and the increasing violence from settlers. Furthermore, he noted the ongoing policies aimed at the Judaization of Jerusalem.
In response to this challenging context, Bourita emphasized that Morocco, under the leadership of the King, is committed to a dual approach that combines robust political action and diplomatic efforts aimed at safeguarding the legitimate rights of the Palestinians, alongside tangible grassroots initiatives. These initiatives are spearheaded by the Bayt Mal al-Quds Asharif Agency, the executive arm of the Jerusalem Committee, which supports the steadfastness of Palestinians against systematic Judaization policies that seek to alter the legal, historical, and demographic status of the holy city.
Furthermore, Bourita underscored Morocco's belief in the importance of collective, multilateral action, as evidenced by its sincere engagement in international initiatives aimed at promoting peace and stability in the region. He reminded attendees that Morocco's membership in the Council of Peace reflects a clear intention to contribute positively and constructively towards de-escalation, protecting civilians, and creating favorable conditions for the resumption of a credible and serious political process.
