Morocco Strengthens Border Security in Response to Migrant Surge Concerns
As the fear of a potential mass influx of migrants looms, Morocco has taken decisive action to bolster security at its border with Ceuta. This move comes in light of social media calls urging individuals to attempt a significant crossing on August 15. The Moroccan authorities have concentrated their efforts, particularly in the city of Fnideq, where an increased presence of both police and military personnel has been observed. Additionally, the perimeter of the border has been fortified to deter any unlawful crossings.
Spain is also responding to these concerns with heightened security measures of its own in Ceuta. Over the past few days, the Spanish government has ramped up its deployment, now comprising approximately 1,600 police officers and civil guards, in addition to around 2,000 military personnel. The Interior Ministry has taken further steps by integrating new National Police agents, and the Civil Guard continues to implement strategies to ensure that its forces remain prepared for any attempts that may arise.
