Morocco Tops African Futsal Rankings Despite Minor Drop for Women
In a recent update released by FIFA, Morocco has maintained its dominance in African futsal, ranking sixth in the world among men's teams, as of September 25, 2026. This position marks an increase of 10.77 points for the Moroccan men's national team, which remains significantly ahead of its closest African competitor, Egypt, which is ranked 41st. Libya follows closely behind at 52nd place, having gained one position in the latest rankings.
On the women's side, however, Morocco has experienced a slight decline, dropping two spots to 26th in the global standings, along with a loss of 14.36 points. Nonetheless, the Moroccan women's team still leads the African rankings, with Tanzania and Senegal placed at 73rd and 81st respectively, both gaining one position each. The contrast between the men's and women's rankings reflects the ongoing development of the sport in Morocco, with the men's team showcasing a solid performance while the women's team works to regain its footing in the international arena.
Globally, Brazil continues to dominate both men's and women's futsal, holding the top spot in the rankings, followed by Portugal and Spain. Notably, Croatia made significant progress in the women's category, climbing three ranks to 32nd place. In contrast, Zambia achieved the most significant advancement in the men's rankings, moving up four positions to reach 82nd. Vietnam also made headlines by increasing its points by 19.5, elevating them to 20th place.
FIFA has announced that the next update to the futsal rankings will be released on December 11, 2026, promising to provide further insights into the evolving landscape of futsal globally.
