Cancellation of the Morocco vs. El Salvador Friendly Match
The Royal Moroccan Football Federation has officially announced the cancellation of the friendly match scheduled between the national team and its Salvadoran counterpart in Washington, D.C., set for June. This decision was influenced by various factors linked to the preparation for upcoming competitions.
In a formal communication addressed to the Salvadoran Football Federation, which was obtained by alyaoum24, the federation cited the overlap of club competitions in Europe and Asia, changes to national league schedules, and injuries affecting several key players as reasons for the cancellation. These circumstances would result in the absence of at least one-third of the players who were expected to be called up, making it impractical to travel to the United States on May 29 and compete with an incomplete squad.
Consequently, the federation has decided to cancel the match scheduled for Washington while emphasizing the importance of the preparatory encounter against El Salvador for future international events. As an alternative, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation has proposed to host the match on June 2 in Morocco, specifically in the capital, Rabat, and will cover the travel and accommodation expenses for the Salvadoran team, pending a response from the concerned federation regarding this proposal.
Furthermore, the federation expressed its regrets over this change while reiterating its commitment to enhancing cooperation and coordination with the Salvadoran Football Federation in the future.
Previously, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation announced that the national team would face Norway in a friendly match as part of its preparations for the upcoming FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico in 2026. This match is scheduled to take place on Sunday, June 7, 2026, at Sports Illustrated Field in Harrison, New Jersey, starting at 3 PM local time, which corresponds to 8 PM Moroccan time.
Morocco will kick off its World Cup campaign against Brazil on June 13, 2026, at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, beginning at 11 PM. The team will then face Scotland on June 19, 2026, at Gillette Stadium in Boston, and conclude their group stage matches against Haiti on June 26, 2026, at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, with all matches starting at 11 PM.
