Morocco Sets Ambitious Goal for MICE Tourism by 2030

Morocco Aims for 2.3 Million MICE Visitors by 2030

Morocco has set its sights on attracting 2.3 million business and conference tourists by the year 2030, marking a significant step towards enhancing its Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) sector. This ambitious target was announced by Fatim-Zahra Ammor, the Minister of Tourism, Craft, and Social and Solidarity Economy, during a session at the Chamber of Advisors. The minister emphasized the crucial role that the MICE segment plays in the overall tourism strategy, highlighting its potential for promoting Morocco as a prime destination and mitigating the seasonality of tourism. With dedicated initiatives for this sector, Morocco is poised for robust growth in the coming years.

Currently, the nation boasts a capacity of 135,000 spaces for business tourism distributed across various cities. This infrastructure supports the growing demand and reflects a notable trend in the increasing popularity of business tourism within the country. To further bolster its position in the MICE market, the government plans to inaugurate a new convention center in Agadir by the end of 2026, which will accommodate up to 5,000 guests. Additionally, a large-scale congress center with a capacity of 20,000 is under construction in Marrakech, which underscores Morocco's commitment to expanding its offerings for business travelers.

Plans are also underway for a congress palace in Casablanca, aimed for completion by 2030, although details regarding the location and partnerships are still being finalized. Furthermore, a significant investment of 700 million dirhams has been pledged for the construction of an exhibition center in Rabat, which will be funded through a cooperative effort between the ministry and local authorities. Minister Ammor reiterated the importance of time and financial resources in realizing these infrastructure projects, while affirming the ministry's readiness to support initiatives that enhance the business tourism segment in the concerned regions.
