Morocco Signs Agreement for Participation in International Stability Force in Gaza

Morocco's Commitment to Peace and Security in Gaza

On July 15, 2026, Morocco officially signed an agreement to participate in the International Stability Force in Gaza, emphasizing its dedication to fostering peace and security in the region through tangible humanitarian and security initiatives. This agreement was signed during a meeting in Rabat with Nikolai Mladenov, the high representative of the Peace Council in Gaza, alongside a high-level delegation including Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and Minister Delegate for National Defense, Abdellatif Loudiyi. The signing event highlighted Morocco's role as a founding member of the Peace Council and its commitment to international peacekeeping efforts.

The agreement establishes a legal framework covering the technical and operational aspects of Morocco's participation, illustrating a shared commitment to contribute to a climate of peace and security in Gaza. As part of its contribution, Morocco will deploy senior officers and establish a field military hospital, thereby enhancing its involvement in international peacekeeping operations. The Moroccan side reiterated that its participation reflects the nation's deep-rooted values of peace, cooperation, and international solidarity, which are crucial for achieving stability in the Middle East.

International Collaboration and Future Prospects

During the meeting, it was noted that Mladenov's visit is part of Morocco's obligations as a founding member of the Peace Council, in line with royal directives announced during the Council's inaugural meeting in Washington, D.C., presided over by then-President Donald Trump. The Moroccan delegation took this opportunity to showcase its extensive experience in UN peacekeeping operations, underscoring its steadfast commitment to regional and international peace initiatives.

Furthermore, officials from the Peace Council and the commander of the International Stability Force praised Morocco's active engagement in this peaceful initiative. The contributions include the deployment of senior military officers from the Royal Armed Forces and personnel from the Royal Gendarmerie, along with the establishment of a field military hospital. The International Stability Force in Gaza was established as part of Trump's plan to end the conflict in the region, receiving a mandate from the UN Security Council under Resolution 2803 in November 2025. Its mission is to stabilize security, protect civilians, support humanitarian operations, train Palestinian police forces, secure borders, and assist in implementing security arrangements associated with the peace plan, including disarmament of factions and phased withdrawal of occupying forces. Several countries, including Morocco, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, and Albania, have pledged personnel to this force.
