Morocco Signs Agreement to Join International Stability Force in Gaza

Morocco's Commitment to International Stability in Gaza

On July 15, 2026, Morocco officially announced its intention to participate in the International Stability Force (ISF) in Gaza. This significant development was unveiled during a meeting that took place between Morocco's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita, and the Minister Delegate for National Defense Administration, Abdellatif Loudiyi, alongside Nikolai Mladenov, the UN Special Coordinator for the Peace Process in the Middle East. The meeting served as a platform for Morocco to reaffirm its commitment to enhancing peace and security in the region, a decision echoed by the Moroccan News Agency (MAP).

According to reports, the agreement entails the deployment of Royal Armed Forces officers, along with elements from the Royal Gendarmerie and national security forces. Additionally, Morocco will establish a military field hospital in the region. This initiative is part of Morocco's obligations as a founding member of the Council and follows the directives of King Mohammed VI, aimed at fostering regional stability.

Objectives and Implications of Morocco's Participation

The Moroccan government emphasized that its involvement in the ISF is designed to support ongoing efforts to foster peace and security throughout the Middle East. This initiative not only reflects the Kingdom's dedication to international cooperation and peace values but also highlights Morocco's strategic positioning within the international community.

The ISF, as recognized by the international community, aims to stabilize Gaza and foster a conducive environment for peace negotiations. In previous statements, General Jasper Gevers, the commander of the ISF, indicated that five countries had committed to contributing forces to the operation, including Morocco, Kazakhstan, Indonesia, Kosovo, and Albania, with Egypt and Jordan offering to train police personnel. The deployment will commence in Rafah, with the long-term objective being the integration of 20,000 international troops and the training of 12,000 police personnel.

In November of the previous year, the United Nations Security Council passed a resolution, spearheaded by the United States, authorizing the establishment of a temporary international stabilization force in Gaza. This resolution received overwhelming support, with thirteen members voting in favor, while Russia and China abstained from voting.

Morocco's participation in the ISF is a crucial step towards ensuring a sustainable peace process in Gaza, offering hope for a more stable future in the region. As Morocco stands ready to contribute, it reinforces its role as a key player in international diplomacy and conflict resolution.
