Facilitating Voluntary Returns for Migrants
Morocco has taken significant steps to facilitate the voluntary return of migrants who crossed into Ceuta during the crisis in July. This initiative, confirmed by sources within the Spanish police, highlights a cooperative effort between Moroccan authorities and Spanish counterparts aimed at easing the repatriation process. Notably, over 1,200 individuals expressed their desire to return home during the evacuation of the 'El Trampolín' camp, with additional groups choosing to return soon after. Those opting for repatriation preferred this route over staying in the temporary reception center for foreigners, where they would have been subject to identification and administrative processing.
In a concerted effort to support these returnees, Morocco has organized transportation from Fnideq to various hometowns, ensuring a smoother transition for those who have chosen to return. This logistical arrangement underscores Morocco's commitment to managing the migration situation effectively. During a recent meeting in New York on September 24, Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita reassured his Spanish counterpart, José Manuel Albares, of Rabat's dedication to facilitating the return of these migrants. This cooperation represents a significant step in addressing the ongoing migration challenges faced by both nations.
