On Wednesday, October 11, 2023, the Moroccan Minister of Transport and Logistics, Abdel Samad Guioh, held bilateral meetings in Marrakech with his counterparts from Liberia and the Federal Republic of Nigeria. These discussions took place on the sidelines of the Global Implementation Support Symposium (GISS 2026), which aims to foster international cooperation in aviation and transport.
During his meeting with Archibald Aban, Liberia's Assistant Minister for Transport in charge of Administration and Insurance, Guioh exchanged views on enhancing cooperative ties between Morocco and Liberia in the transportation sector. The focus was on developing the civil aviation sector and creating opportunities for bilateral partnerships. The discussions covered mechanisms to improve air connectivity between the two nations, fostering coordination in regulation, safety, and security in aviation, as well as exploring avenues for collaboration in human resources training and technical expertise exchange.
Additionally, Guioh met with Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development from Nigeria, where they deliberated on ways to enhance air connectivity between their countries. They emphasized the importance of intensifying cooperation in civil aviation safety and security, along with sharing expertise in aviation practices.
As a result of these fruitful discussions, two bilateral agreements were signed with both Liberia and Nigeria focusing on air transport cooperation. These agreements aim to establish a framework for enhancing cooperation in air services, facilitating air transport operations, promoting investments, and strengthening economic and trade exchanges.
These agreements embody Morocco's commitment to establishing effective and sustainable cooperation in civil aviation, based on the exchange of experiences and the enhancement of technical and institutional capacities, aligning with international best practices. They also reflect the dynamism that Morocco is pursuing to enhance its openness towards African partners and solidify its position as a key player in regional air transport.
It is noteworthy that the fifth edition of the Global Implementation Support Symposium (GISS) is organized by the Ministry of Transport and Logistics in partnership with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), under the patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, and will run until April 16, 2023, under the theme "Regional Solutions, Global Benefits."
