Morocco's Remarkable Growth in the UK Raspberry Sector
According to a report by EastFruit, Morocco has significantly bolstered its position as a leading supplier in the United Kingdom's fresh raspberry market. During the marketing year 2025/26, which spans from July 2025 to June 2026, the UK imported approximately 18,400 tons of raspberries from Morocco, valued at over £132.7 million (approximately €154.7 million). This marks a modest increase of 1.6% compared to the previous year, setting a new record for Moroccan raspberry exports to the UK.
Analysts at EastFruit highlight this achievement against the backdrop of declining overall raspberry imports to the UK. Remarkably, Moroccan shipments have surged by 2.6 times since the marketing year 2020/21, with the North African country's market share soaring from 21.3% to an astonishing 62.9% during this period. This means that nearly two-thirds of all raspberries imported into the UK now originate from Morocco. Spain remains the second-largest supplier, while Portugal, Germany, the Netherlands, and South Africa also contribute to the raspberry market.
The UK Berry Market's Dynamic Growth
The UK berry market is recognized as one of the most dynamic segments within the fruit industry. According to the CBI, sales in this sector are growing at an average rate of 4.3% per year, with more than 85% of consumers purchasing berries regularly. By early 2025, the total value of the UK berry market surpassed the £2 billion mark for the first time, reaching £2.33 billion (€2.7 billion). This growth reflects not only the increasing demand for berries among consumers but also the strategic investments made by suppliers like Morocco to enhance their market presence.
