According to an article published by the Italian portal "Atlantico", Morocco is solidifying its status as a strategic hub linking Africa and Europe, capitalizing on significant projects and increasing investments that have enhanced its regional and international presence in recent years. The report highlights two prominent developments that illustrate this transformation: the inclusion of member countries from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in the Africa Atlantic Gas Pipeline project linking Nigeria to Morocco, and the positive outcomes Morocco has achieved in the 2026 World Investment Report released by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), which has positioned the kingdom as one of the most attractive destinations for foreign direct investment in Africa.
The report noted that the signing of the international governmental agreement for the Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline project marks a pivotal step in executing one of the largest energy infrastructure projects on the continent. This initiative is expected to significantly alter the energy landscape and economic integration in the West African region. The Italian portal emphasized that the project, initiated by King Mohammed VI and the late Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, and currently supported by the Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, transcends mere gas transportation.
