Morocco's Stance on Extradition
The Moroccan government is currently contemplating the suspension of its extradition agreement with Spain, citing repeated failures regarding the transfer of individuals sought by its courts. This assertion was made public by the Moroccan Minister of Justice, Abdellatif Ouahbi, during an interview with the EFE news agency. He confirmed that discussions are ongoing within his department concerning the potential freezing of this bilateral pact. Ouahbi explained that when Morocco requests the extradition of a citizen, Spain typically initiates the process by detaining the individual, confirming their identity, and scheduling a date for the transfer. At that point, Moroccan agents are dispatched to take custody of the extradited individual. However, the minister expressed concern that there have been instances where the transfer does not occur as planned.

Ouahbi characterized these occurrences as "unfathomable" and expressed disappointment over Spain's last-minute notifications indicating that the requested individual is no longer available. "We are told that the person was released," he stated, without providing specific examples of such cases.
