Morocco is set to observe the first day of Muharram 1448 on Wednesday, June 17, following the announcement from the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs regarding the unsuccessful sighting of the crescent moon on Monday evening. The ministry conducted a thorough monitoring of the crescent on Monday, which marked the 29th day of Dhu al-Hijja 1447, corresponding to June 15, 2026. In this effort, they reached out to Islamic affairs representatives throughout the kingdom, as well as to units of the Royal Armed Forces that are tasked with moon sighting operations.
According to the ministry's statement, all reporting entities confirmed that the crescent moon was not observed. Consequently, the month of Dhu al-Hijja will conclude with 30 days, leading to Wednesday being recognized as the first day of Muharram and the commencement of the new Hijri year. This marks an important time for reflection and renewal within the Islamic community.
