Transition to Digital Insurance Certificates in Morocco
In a significant move towards modernization, Morocco is set to eliminate paper car insurance certificates by July 1, 2027. This announcement was made by Mohamed Hassan Ben Salah, the president of the Moroccan Insurance Federation, during the 10th annual meeting of the National Union of Insurance Agents and Brokers held on October 8, 2026. The initiative aims to replace traditional paper certificates with digital documents that are easily verifiable through electronic means.
Ben Salah elaborated that the transition follows a pilot phase that commenced on July 1 of the previous year, which introduced insurance certificates embedded with a Quick Response (QR) Code. This innovative approach not only enhances security but also simplifies the verification process for both insurance companies and vehicle owners.
Abdel Rahim Chafii, the head of the Insurance and Social Security Control Authority, emphasized the benefits of the new system, which will allow for the issuance of secure electronic certificates. These will facilitate instant verification of insurance coverage for vehicles, thereby improving road monitoring mechanisms. The introduction of portable scanning devices for security forces and insurance representatives will enable them to quickly assess the insurance status of any vehicle, significantly reducing bureaucratic procedures associated with paper documentation and enhancing service quality for policyholders.
