Morocco Unveils Its Tallest Skyscraper: The Iconic Mohammed VI Tower

This week marks a significant milestone for Morocco, as the nation proudly inaugurated its tallest skyscraper, the magnificent 55-story Mohammed VI Tower, located on the right bank of the Bouregreg River. The grand opening ceremony was presided over by Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan, heralding the emergence of a new architectural marvel that offers breathtaking views of the twin cities of Rabat and Salé. Standing at an impressive height of 250 meters, the Mohammed VI Tower has swiftly become a defining feature of the Kingdom's skyline, symbolizing Morocco's aspirations toward modernity and urban development.

Shaping Morocco's Urban Landscape

The skyline of any city is often defined by its iconic structures, and in Morocco, several notable buildings have contributed to this vertical landscape. Among them is the Twin Center, which has long stood as a pioneering landmark in Casablanca's vibrant Maarif district. Home to two towers each reaching 115 meters, the Twin Center was designed by the renowned architectural firm Ricardo Bofill Taller de Arquitectura, with collaboration from architect Elie Mouyal. This complex, which spans 93,000 square meters, skillfully integrates offices, retail spaces, and leisure facilities, embodying a design that draws heavily from traditional Moorish architecture and enhances the urban fabric of Casablanca.

Following the Twin Center, the Maroc Telecom Tower in Rabat became another essential feature of the skyline. Standing 91 meters tall with 20 floors, this building is the headquarters of Itissalat Al Magrib (IAM) and was completed in 2013 by Jean-Paul Viguier Associés along with Omar Kobbite. Covering an area of 29,700 square meters, the tower is notable for its striking balance of light and shadow, as well as its seamless blend of modernity and tradition.

In Casablanca, the ANP Tower also plays a vital role in the region’s architectural narrative. This 105-meter high structure, which serves as the headquarters of the National Ports Agency, was developed as part of the Wessal Casablanca Port initiative. It showcases modern engineering, having required a substantial investment and significant resources for its construction.

Further enhancing the Casablanca skyline, the Casablanca Finance City Tower stands at 121 meters, representing a strategic financial hub aimed at attracting international investments. Designed by the innovative Morphosis firm, this tower features a tapered crown and a climate-responsive façade, reinforcing its role as a gateway to the bustling business district.

Another significant addition to the Casablanca Finance City is the Borj Attijariwafa, which combines a 25-story tower with four additional office buildings, creating a substantial headquarters for Attijariwafa Bank. Designed with a focus on sustainability and user comfort, its structures are crafted to maximize natural light while ensuring environmental efficiency.

Adjacent to this, the BCP Tower is set to become a notable feature in the skyline as well, serving as the headquarters for Banque Centrale Populaire. Recognized at the Architectural Record Awards 2025 for its architectural excellence, the tower is designed to optimize natural light and enhance its surrounding environment with suspended gardens.

Finally, the crowning jewel of this architectural showcase is the Mohammed VI Tower, which stands at 250 meters and redefines the skyline of Rabat. It not only accommodates luxury hotels and office spaces but also incorporates residences, a heritage observatory, and various dining and shopping facilities. Built on a robust foundation designed to withstand natural disasters, the Mohammed VI Tower incorporates advanced energy recovery systems and has received prestigious LEED Gold and HQE certifications. From its observatory, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of Rabat and Salé’s historic landscapes, marking it as a must-visit destination.
