Morocco's Thriving Tourism Sector Sees Significant Growth
According to the Financial Studies and Forecasts Directorate, Morocco has seen an impressive influx of approximately 9.4 million visitors by the end of the first half of 2026, marking a notable year-on-year increase of 6%. This surge is largely attributed to a rise in arrivals from key international markets. Specifically, visitors from France increased by 9%, while those from Germany and Belgium rose by 14% and 9%, respectively. Other notable markets include the Netherlands, with a 10% increase, Italy at 6%, Poland experiencing a remarkable 32% growth, and the UK and USA showing increases of 4% and 9% respectively.
In terms of accommodation, the number of overnight stays recorded in classified tourist establishments saw a significant rise of 9% by the end of June, following a prior increase of 12% the previous year. This positive trend reflects the growing appeal of various destinations across the kingdom. Noteworthy increases in overnight stays were observed in Marrakech (up 10%), Agadir (up 11%), Casablanca (up 11%), Tangier (up 10%), and a remarkable 23% increase in Ouarzazate, along with 20% in Rabat. Other cities such as Al Hoceima, Fes, Essaouira, and Rachidia also reported increases ranging from 6% to 9% in overnight stays.
Moreover, travel revenues soared to 64.9 billion dirhams, reflecting a significant rise of 15.9% by the end of June 2026, following a 12.1% increase the previous year. This growth in revenue is attributed to a substantial rise of 23.5% in the first quarter and 21.2% in the second quarter of 2026. The upward trajectory of Morocco's tourism sector underscores its increasing attractiveness as a travel destination, bolstered by ongoing efforts to enhance visitor experiences and promote the country's rich cultural heritage and diverse landscapes.
