Morocco's Airport Expansion: A Transformative Vision for 2030

Massive Investments in Moroccan Airports Set to Transform Travel by 2030

On May 28, 2026, Morocco's air traffic is experiencing unprecedented growth, prompting the National Airport Office (ONDA) to initiate an extensive action plan that will extend until 2028. This ambitious program includes the construction of a historic new terminal in Casablanca, alongside comprehensive upgrades to regional airports across the nation. In 2025, Moroccan airports facilitated the travel of 36.3 million passengers, generating a record revenue of 5.848 billion dirhams. This impressive growth rate of 11% has led the ONDA board, under the leadership of Minister Abdessamad Kayouh, to endorse a robust budgetary and operational roadmap. This plan is built on a foundation of recognized financial stability and efficient coordination, as evidenced by the successful handling of the influx of visitors during the Africa Cup of Nations.

Strategic Developments Across Major Airports

At the heart of these ambitious plans is the monumental project at Mohammed V Airport in Casablanca, which marked a significant milestone last year by welcoming nearly 11 million travelers. In response to this increased demand, ONDA is set to launch the construction of a new terminal, which will represent the largest investment ever undertaken by the organization. This project aims to strengthen Casablanca's role as a central hub for connectivity in Morocco and enhance its international standing.

The momentum of this airport transformation extends well beyond the economic capital, fueled by the "Airports 2030" strategy. Regional airports in Tangier, Tetouan, Marrakech, Agadir, and Rabat are set to undergo significant renovations and expansions. The administrators are committed to delivering these projects on time while adhering to the highest safety standards. As the ONDA succinctly states, "a movement of sustainable transformation is now sweeping through Morocco's airport network." This was further emphasized by the signing of a memorandum of understanding in Rabat, establishing a strategic roadmap for the 2025-2030 period, which entails a total investment of 38 billion dirhams aimed at the development of national airport infrastructure.

The ONDA is also initiating expansion works at the Ibn Battouta Airport in Tangier, a strategic move to modernize facilities amid the ongoing rise in air traffic in northern Morocco. This extensive modernization initiative, which includes plans for new terminals and enhanced passenger services, is designed to double, or even triple, the capacity of these airports to accommodate the increasing influx of travelers, particularly as Morocco gears up to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
