Morocco's Commitment to Humanitarian Action: A Central Priority Under King Mohammed VI

Morocco's Humanitarian Initiatives Led by King Mohammed VI

On July 13, 2026, the Kingdom of Morocco, under the guidance of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, reaffirmed its dedication to humanitarian action as a central priority. This assertion was made by Farida El Khamlichi, the president of the National Commission of International Humanitarian Law (CNDIH), during the inaugural session of the International Colloquium titled "Multilateral Humanitarian Action at a Crossroads: Challenges and Issues," held in Rabat. El Khamlichi emphasized that since gaining independence, Morocco has established itself as a pivotal actor in peacekeeping and international solidarity, particularly within the African continent.

Additionally, Amina Bouayach, president of the National Human Rights Council (CNDH), highlighted the current crisis facing international humanitarian action, which extends beyond mere financial resource shortages and directly impacts the effectiveness of the multilateral system in this critical area. The growing complexity and exponential rise of humanitarian needs globally necessitate a collaborative approach, as no single institution can address these challenges in isolation. This sentiment was echoed by Kate Forbes, president of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), who stressed the imperative of collective mobilization to effectively confront these pressing issues.

This colloquium brought together institutional leaders, human rights advocates, and various ambassadors, signifying a robust commitment to enhancing humanitarian efforts on both national and international stages. Morocco's proactive stance on humanitarian issues serves as a model for other nations, demonstrating its responsibility and dedication to addressing global humanitarian challenges.
