Morocco's DGSN Open Days: Celebrating 70 Years of Policing Excellence

Strengthening Community Bonds Through Open Days

The 7th edition of the Open Days organized by the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) commenced on Sunday in Rabat, symbolizing the DGSN's unwavering dedication to enhancing its relationship with the public. This year's event not only marks the institution's commitment to transparency and engagement but also coincides with the significant milestone of the DGSN's 70th anniversary. The ceremony, presided over by Minister of the Interior Abdelouafi Laftit and Director General Abdellatif Hammouchi, attracted numerous international dignitaries, including Interpol President Lucas Philippe and Mohammed Ben Ali Koman, Secretary General of the Arab Interior Ministers Council.

Acknowledging Institutional Prestige and Police Transformation

During the opening ceremony, Interpol President Lucas Philippe delivered a heartfelt tribute to Morocco's national police force, framing the nation's investment in its police as a strategic sovereign decision made under the leadership of King Mohammed VI. This investment encompasses vital areas such as operational capabilities, training, technological advancement, and the enhancement of officers' working conditions. Philippe articulated a three-pronged approach to defining institutional prestige, emphasizing that the esteem of a police entity is gauged at various strata, beginning with the pride of its personnel, extending to the trust it cultivates among citizens, and ultimately reaching an international audience where credibility is paramount.

He highlighted the DGSN's ongoing transformation regarding police-community relations, underscoring improvements in service delivery, responsiveness, and a commitment to performance, all anchored in a foundation of trust within the policing framework. Philippe also mentioned the inauguration of the DGSN's new headquarters, which he sees as a testament to the institution's ambitions and a reflection of confidence in the professionalism of its officers. Notably, he pointed out that Interpol’s headquarters in Lyon is currently undergoing significant expansion, mirroring the same principles of providing security with adequate resources, vision, and acknowledgment of the responsibilities entrusted to law enforcement personnel.

Philippe’s remarks reiterated that the essence of Interpol lies in fostering a sense of belonging that transcends national borders, aspiring to create a cohesive global police community. He asserted that this community, consisting of 25 million police officers from 196 member nations, aims to enhance trust, strengthen connections, and instill a shared sense of pride among law enforcement officials worldwide. He concluded by emphasizing the critical understanding that security is the cornerstone of stability and trust, and that effective law enforcement agencies are essential to achieving this. Morocco's proactive approach and demonstrated commitment to these ideals were evident throughout the event, showcasing the DGSN's legacy and its modern approach focused on citizen engagement.
