Significant Economic Growth Across Moroccan Regions
The High Commission for Planning in Morocco has reported that two-thirds of the country's regions surpassed the national GDP growth rate of 4.4% in 2024. This substantial growth indicates a thriving economy, with specific regions achieving remarkable rates. Other notable regions include Souss-Massa with a growth of 6.8%, Drâa-Tafilalet at 6.2%, and the East region with 5.9%. Marrakech-Safi recorded a growth rate of 5.1%, while Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima achieved 4.9%, and Guelmim-Oued Noun posted a 4.6% growth rate.
Driving Forces Behind Regional Growth
The growth in Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra was primarily driven by advancements in non-commercial services and the fishing industry, while Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab saw continuous development in the fishing and construction sectors. In Souss-Massa, robust performance in agriculture and services fueled growth, whereas Drâa-Tafilalet experienced a revival in construction activities. The East region's growth was attributed to the resumption of industrial and service activities. Additionally, Marrakech-Safi's growth was spurred by the hospitality and restaurant sectors, and Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima benefited from a booming manufacturing industry and services. In Guelmim-Oued Noun, growth was supported by primary activities and services.
Other regions recorded positive growth rates, albeit below the national average, ranging between 1.6% and 4.3%. Casablanca-Settat reached a growth rate of 4.3%, followed by Rabat-Salé-Kénitra at 3.5%, Beni Mellal-Khénifra at 2.1%, and Fès-Meknès at 1.6%.
