Morocco's Fassi Football Club Seeks New Stadium for Upcoming Season
As the new season approaches, Morocco's Fassi Football Club is actively searching for a suitable stadium to host its matches, including those in the professional league and the prestigious African Champions League. This necessity arises due to the ongoing renovations at the large complex, which is being prepared for the 2030 World Cup, rendering the stadium unavailable for use. Compounding the issue, the Hassan II Stadium is also undergoing repairs, further limiting the options available to the club.
Reports indicate that the club's management is unwilling to accept the limited capacity of the honorary stadium in Meknes, which they believe is inadequate for their needs. Instead, they are leaning towards relocating their matches to Rabat, where four stadiums can accommodate up to 20,000 spectators each. This move would not only meet the club's capacity requirements but also enhance the overall experience for fans.
In addition to logistical challenges, the club has recently made significant changes to its coaching staff. They have appointed Portuguese coach Rui Almeida, formerly of Difaâ Hassani El Jadidi, to replace Spanish coach Pablo Franco. Franco led the team to a championship title but opted against extending his contract for another season.
The summer transfer window has also seen notable departures from the club, including Mauritanian player Cheikhna Smaïga and Botswana's Kabelo Sekanini, both of whom left upon the expiration of their contracts. Furthermore, Sofiane Benjedida has secured a transfer to Egypt's Al-Ahly on a three-year deal worth three billion centimes.
