Prince El Hasán Takes on Major Military Role
In a significant move to solidify the future of Morocco's monarchy, King Mohammed VI has appointed his only son, Prince El Hasán, as the new coordinator of the Offices and Services of the General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces. This crucial position within the military structure is designed to prepare the young heir for his eventual role in the royal succession. As King Mohammed VI, the Supreme Commander and Chief of the General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces, noted in the announcement, Prince El Hasán will have unprecedented access to military intelligence reports, which will be presented to the King. This role marks a significant advancement for the 22-year-old prince, who previously held only lower-ranking military duties. The royal cabinet also highlighted a historical parallel, noting that King Mohammed VI was appointed to the same position at the age of 22 by his grandfather, the late King Hassan II, in 1985.
Strengthening National Security and Military Modernization
In addition to his new administrative role, the Crown Prince will also be involved in overseeing daily border security and addressing regional threats. He will play a pivotal role in modernizing the military and enhancing its social services. Currently studying at the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University in Rabat, Prince El Hasán has been increasingly prominent in public life, having recently presided over the opening ceremony of the Africa Cup of Nations football tournament and inaugurated the King Mohammed VI Tower near Rabat.
