Morocco's Minister of Culture Embraces the Gaming Industry with Huawei Partnership

Minister Ben Saïd Champions the Electronic Gaming Sector in Morocco

In Morocco, the ongoing debate surrounding the increasing focus of the Minister of Culture, Youth, and Communication, Mohamed Mehdi Ben Saïd, on electronic gaming projects has garnered significant attention. This focus has led to the characterization of his ministry as a "platform for this industry," as noted by various observers. On Tuesday, April 7th, the minister, a member of the PAM political party, participated in the official opening of the GITEX Africa Morocco 2026 exhibition in Marrakech. This event was organized by the Ministry of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform in collaboration with the Digital Development Agency (ADD). During this exhibition, Minister Ben Saïd signed a strategic partnership agreement with Huawei Morocco, which he described as pivotal for the advancement of the electronic gaming and digital industries in Morocco.

In his address, Minister Ben Saïd emphasized that the agreement aims to accelerate the development of the electronic gaming industry and digital sectors in Morocco. This will be achieved through the support of national talents, enhanced training programs, and the establishment of a competitive ecosystem that can keep pace with global technological transformations. He elaborated on this vision, stating that the partnership with Huawei Morocco is part of a shared commitment to valorizing Moroccan talents and fostering collaboration between the public and private sectors. This initiative is expected to solidify Morocco's position as a regional player in the fields of digital innovation and electronic gaming.

Furthermore, Minister Ben Saïd's deepening engagement with the electronic gaming sector has led many observers to label him as "obsessed" with this industry. He has previously expressed his belief in the sector’s potential, arguing that the gaming industry creates job opportunities across more than 80 professions and that its development is not merely a luxury but a necessity. The minister views the electronic gaming market in Morocco as a promising field, equipped with all the necessary components to be at the heart of the global gaming dynamics. He has reiterated his ministry's commitment to significantly increase the industry’s revenue, reflecting his passion for this transformative sector.
