Morocco's Rising Status in World Sports Infrastructure

On March 12, 2026, Morocco solidified its status as a global reference in sports infrastructure with the announcement that the Moulay Abdellah Complex in Rabat has been named the best stadium of 2025. This prestigious accolade was awarded during the 16th edition of the 'Stadium of the Year' competition, hosted by StadiumDB.com, where the Moroccan venue scored an impressive 14,481 points. This achievement highlights the significant investments the Kingdom has made in preparation for the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) in 2025 and the World Cup in 2030, showcasing Morocco's commitment to enhancing its sports facilities.

Constructed in a remarkable timeframe of just 18 months at a cost exceeding 3 billion dirhams, the Moulay Abdellah Complex boasts a seating capacity of 68,700. Its modern design draws inspiration from Moroccan identity, featuring a façade reminiscent of palm leaves and incorporating an innovative hybrid grass technology that is unprecedented in Africa. The stadium encompasses state-of-the-art facilities, including 110 VIP boxes, a press stand with 1,800 seats, and ten official commercial spaces, ensuring that it meets international standards for comfort and safety.

A Showcase of Moroccan Football Excellence

Following closely in the rankings, the Grand Stadium of Tangier secured the second position globally, amassing 10,453 points. This venue, which can accommodate 75,000 spectators, is equipped with cutting-edge technology, including 900 facial recognition cameras and dedicated cryotherapy spaces to enhance player performance. Furthermore, two other stadiums in the capital, the Moulay El Hassan Stadium and El Medina Stadium, ranked fifth and seventh respectively, further affirming Morocco's dominance in regional sports infrastructure. These venues have been modernized at a total cost of 1.4 billion dirhams and have successfully hosted major international matches during the African qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.

Notably, the Olympic Stadium in Rabat rounded out this impressive performance by securing the ninth position. This versatile complex, which has a capacity of 21,000, has demonstrated operational excellence during major events such as the Diamond League and the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, underscoring Morocco's diverse expertise in sports management. As Morocco prepares to host the Africa Cup of Nations from December 20, 2025, to January 18, 2026, it aims to make this 35th edition of the continental tournament remarkable, setting the stage for an exciting future in Moroccan sports.
