EasyJet's New Base in Marrakech: A Game Changer for Moroccan Tourism
The National Office of Tourism in Morocco is significantly enhancing its strategy for air transport development by inaugurating a new EasyJet base in the vibrant city of Marrakech. This strategic move will see the positioning of three aircraft at the new base, which is anticipated to provide as many as four million seats starting from its first year of operation. The establishment of this base is set to greatly increase tourist flows from major European markets to Morocco, solidifying the country’s position as a key destination in the region.
This new base marks EasyJet's first presence in Africa, serving as an essential operational lever for the growth of the Moroccan destination. With the deployment of three aircraft in Marrakech, the airline will be able to offer a total of four million seats within the first year. This remarkable increase in air capacity will bolster the inflow of tourists from vital source markets, boosting Morocco's tourism sector significantly. The base was officially inaugurated on April 15, 2026, at Marrakech Menara Airport, with the attendance of Ashraf Faida, the Director General of the Moroccan National Tourism Office, and Kenton Jarvis, the General Director of EasyJet.
The launch of this new base will allow EasyJet to enhance its service offerings to Morocco by introducing six new flight routes, raising the total number of flights available to 58 that connect the kingdom to its key source markets. Starting in the winter of 2026, three new routes will connect Marrakech with Prague, Newcastle, and Zurich, while three additional routes linking Nantes to Essaouira, Bordeaux to Agadir, and Birmingham to Agadir will be launched in the spring of 2026.
In conjunction with these developments, several existing routes from Marrakech will continue to operate year-round, notably to Lille, Strasbourg, and Hamburg, ensuring a sustainable air connection. With these advancements, EasyJet now serves five Moroccan airports: Marrakech, Agadir, Rabat, Essaouira, and Tangier. This strengthens its position as the leading airline connecting Morocco to the United Kingdom and Switzerland, and it stands as the third most active airline operating within the kingdom. Economically, the establishment of this new base is expected to create approximately 100 direct job opportunities, alongside numerous indirect job prospects while invigorating the entire local tourism ecosystem.
This initiative is part of a continuous strategic partnership established in the fall of 2025 between the Moroccan National Tourism Office and EasyJet, which aims to sustainably enhance Morocco’s air connectivity, diversify markets, and support balanced tourism growth. Additionally, this partnership encompasses the development of the "EasyJet Holidays" program, which proposes over 70 hotels in Marrakech. Since its entry into the Moroccan market in 2006, EasyJet has transported around 20 million passengers to the kingdom and currently serves five major airports, actively contributing to the enhancement of regional capabilities and diversifying the tourism offering.
