Significant Drug Bust in Southern Morocco
On May 20, 2026, Moroccan police successfully thwarted an ambitious smuggling operation in the city of Tiznit, located in the southern region of the country. The operation aimed to transport an impressive 2,175 kilograms of hashish, a potent cannabis extract, across the sea to foreign destinations. Law enforcement officials apprehended three individuals suspected of being involved in an organized crime network dedicated to the international trafficking of narcotics and psychoactive substances.
According to security sources, the suspects were caught in the act, preparing to execute a large-scale drug smuggling operation via maritime routes. During the operation, authorities seized a vehicle bearing false license plates, which contained 55 bundles of hashish, totaling 2,175 kilograms. Additionally, law enforcement officials confiscated a rubber boat, two marine engines, and a large flashlight, as well as a four-wheel-drive vehicle believed to have been utilized for these illicit activities.
This recent bust follows a similar incident in March, when Moroccan customs officials at the Tangier Med port intercepted an attempt to smuggle 3,932 kilograms of hashish, demonstrating the ongoing efforts of Moroccan authorities to combat drug trafficking and maintain safety within their borders. The authorities remain vigilant as they continue their fight against the drug trade, which poses significant risks to public health and safety.
