Morocco's Tourism Sector Sees Unprecedented Growth with Record-breaking Visitor Numbers

The official spokesperson for the government and the minister responsible for relations with Parliament and civil society, Mustapha Baitas, has announced that Morocco's national tourism sector is experiencing an unprecedented dynamic surge. He highlighted that the country is now recording remarkable figures that reflect its increasing international appeal.

During a press conference following the cabinet meeting, Baitas revealed that the number of tourists arriving in Morocco has reached approximately 19.8 million, nearly hitting the 20 million mark. This figure exceeds previously set targets and underscores Morocco’s status as a distinguished global tourist destination.

Furthermore, the government official noted that Morocco has made significant advancements in global rankings, achieving higher positions among international tourist destinations. This improvement is particularly notable when compared to the performance in 2019, with the country gaining about 12 points in key sector indicators.

In addition to visitor numbers, Baitas emphasized that tourism revenues are also on an upward trend, with Morocco generating nearly 14.8 billion USD. This positions the nation prominently on a global scale, approximately ranking 31st, which illustrates the strength of its tourism appeal and enhances the competitiveness of its offerings.

The minister attributed these positive results to the direct outcomes of the government’s policies in the tourism sector, which focus on implementing the 2023-2026 roadmap, enhancing air connectivity, developing tourism offerings, expanding accommodation capacity, and improving the quality of services and tourist experiences.

Baitas also referred to recent financial indicators released by the National Office of Foreign Exchange, which show that travel revenues are projected to increase by 21% until April 2026, reaching around 44 billion and 392 million dirhams, as opposed to 36 billion and 612 million dirhams during the same period last year.

In conclusion, the government official affirmed that these figures reflect a robust tourism dynamic and promising prospects, solidifying Morocco’s position as a leading tourist destination both regionally and internationally.
