Morocco's Tourism Sector Thrives: A Global Perspective

Recent data from the "Global Tourism Barometer" published by the United Nations World Tourism Organization reveals that Morocco has solidified its status as one of the leading global tourist destinations. In 2025, the country ranked twenty-second globally in terms of international tourist arrivals, welcoming a remarkable total of 19.8 million visitors. This achievement highlights the continuous growth of Morocco's tourism sector, as the nation advanced three additional ranks within just one year and gained twelve positions compared to 2019 when it held the thirty-fourth spot worldwide.

The progress is not limited to the number of arrivals but extends to international tourism revenues as well. Morocco improved its standing from thirty-second to thirty-first globally in 2025, with sector revenues reaching approximately $14.8 billion, according to Moroccan news outlet "Al-Omq." This upward trajectory underscores the resilience and appeal of Morocco as a tourist hotspot.

The Moroccan Ministry of Tourism states that the tourism roadmap launched by the government in 2023 focuses on enhancing air connectivity, developing tourism offerings, expanding hotel capacity, and improving the overall quality of the tourist experience, alongside upgrading the skills of human capital in the sector.

During the first quarter of the current year, Morocco recorded a 7% increase in tourist arrivals, a figure that surpasses the global average growth rate of 2% significantly, as reported by the United Nations World Tourism Organization. By the end of May 2026, Morocco welcomed over 7.7 million tourists, marking an increase of 7% compared to the same period in 2025.

The ministry further indicated that the Moroccan tourism sector continues to achieve positive results, with 1.7 million tourists recorded in May 2026 alone, representing a 13% rise from May 2025. Moroccan Tourism Minister Fatima Zahra Amour expressed optimism, stating that "the Moroccan tourism sector is continuing to perform positively throughout 2026." She emphasized that the recorded results are a clear indication of the success of the strategy focused on investing in air connectivity, enhancing tourism offerings, and improving the tourist experience.
