Morocco's Trade Surplus with Africa: A Remarkable Transformation

The total trade volume between Morocco and African countries reached approximately 53.60 billion dirhams by the end of November 2025, a significant increase from 37.54 billion dirhams in 2014. This figure further rose to 56.03 billion dirhams in 2024, marking a staggering 50% growth over ten years. Such impressive statistics underscore Morocco's evolving economic landscape within the African continent.

According to official Moroccan data, the country's trade balance with African nations has undergone a remarkable transformation, shifting from a deficit of 3 billion dirhams in 2014 to a surplus of 7.2 billion dirhams by 2024. This transition is indicative of Morocco's enhanced economic engagement and strategic partnerships across Africa.

Moroccan Minister of Economy and Finance, Nadia Fettah, emphasized that collaboration with African nations remains a strategic priority in Morocco's foreign policy. She articulated that Morocco's vision for African economic cooperation is founded on principles of shared development, aimed at fostering productive investment, economic stability, and trust-building. These efforts are designed to generate local added value, enhance competitiveness, and support social stability throughout the continent.

Furthermore, Fettah noted that bilateral economic and trade cooperation constitutes a cornerstone of Morocco's strategy towards Africa. The role of the Moroccan private sector is pivotal in bolstering economic integration and transforming Morocco's economic diplomacy into tangible and sustainable partnerships.

Regarding Moroccan investments in Africa, the minister highlighted a notable upward trend in recent years. Investments surged from 3 billion dirhams in 2015 to approximately 4.8 billion dirhams in 2024. Furthermore, direct Moroccan investments in Sub-Saharan African countries reached 4.55 billion dirhams in 2024, accounting for 95% of Morocco's total direct investments across the continent.
