NARSA Implements New Unified Vehicle Registration Plate Model for Domestic and International Use
On August 10, 2026, the National Road Safety Agency, known as NARSA, announced the adoption of a new unified model for vehicle registration plates, applicable both within Morocco and internationally. This initiative aims to standardize vehicle registration procedures and address various operational challenges related to the regulatory framework governing these plates, particularly during international travel.
According to an official statement by the agency, the Minister of Transport and Logistics issued Decision No. 640.26 on August 3, which amends and supplements the earlier Ministerial Decision No. 2711.10, originally issued on September 29, 2010. This new regulation aims to standardize the design and dimensions of registration plates to eliminate the practical issues arising from discrepancies between the formats used for international travel and those used domestically.
The agency clarified that existing registration plates that were in use prior to the implementation of this decision can continue to be utilized for vehicles registered under the normal series, which adhere to the specifications for operation in Morocco, until the first transfer of ownership occurs. Additionally, for vehicles registered under the normal series that are used for international travel and carry Latin characters along with the emblem denoting the Kingdom of Morocco (MA), their current plates will remain valid until December 31, 2026. After this date, they will need to be replaced with the newly unified model.
Furthermore, starting from the date the decision was published, the new unified model will be mandatory for all new vehicle registrations, including imported vehicles, whether they are new or used. NARSA has urged all manufacturers of vehicle registration plates to comply with the stipulations outlined in Decision No. 640.26, ensuring that the plates are produced according to the specified design and dimensions.
