Overview of Recent Airport Maintenance Contracts
The National Office of Airports in Morocco has recently unveiled the final results of a tender related to maintenance works for various airport buildings across the nation. This extensive project was divided into five main lots, each focusing on different airports, reflecting the government’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure and operational efficiency within the aviation sector.
Lot number one pertains to the Rabat-Salé Airport, which has been awarded to the construction and development firm STCAB, with a financial envelope estimated at 3,086,958.00 MAD annually, including taxes. Following this, lot number two involves the Ouarzazate Airport, which has been granted to the company BH RESEAU ET TECHNOLOGIE for an amount of 958,596.00 MAD annually, also inclusive of taxes. The third lot focuses on Hassan I Airport in Laayoune, which has been awarded to STE GF BUSINESS at a total of 1,617,600.00 MAD per year. Lot four covers Sharif Al-Idrisi Airport in Al Hoceima and has been assigned to STE WEST ATLANTIC CONTRACTORS, with a contract value of 894,726.00 MAD annually.
As for lot five, which concerns the maintenance of buildings at Dakhla Airport, the committee responsible for overseeing the contracts deemed this tender fruitless due to the absence of any acceptable bids that met the required administrative and technical conditions. This decision highlights the challenges in securing qualified contractors for specialized airport maintenance tasks.
Innovative Baggage Handling System at Casablanca Airport
In a parallel announcement, the National Office of Airports has also divulged plans to implement a state-of-the-art baggage handling system at the new terminal of Mohammed V Airport in Casablanca. The initial phase of this project is designed to accommodate between 20 to 30 million passengers annually, significantly enhancing the airport's operational capacity. The project will deliver an advanced system featuring independent trolleys and an early baggage storage (EBS) feature, ensuring a seamless management of departure, arrival, and transit routes.
To guarantee the highest standards of security and safety, the new system will be equipped with advanced technologies, including automated explosive detection systems (EDS) and dual-view X-ray screening devices. All operations will be overseen by an integrated information system, ensuring real-time tracking of processes, effective data management, and the generation of precise reports that will bolster the efficiency of this vital facility. The comprehensive upgrades not only promise to improve passenger experience but also reinforce the security measures essential for modern airports.
