On August 17, 2026, a significant reshuffle took place at the headquarters of the Marrakech-Safi region where new local authority officials were officially appointed. This move is part of a broader transitional initiative implemented by the Ministry of the Interior, aimed at enhancing administrative efficiency and governance in the region.
The latest appointments included six officials, among whom was a woman, who are set to take on various administrative roles across several urban districts. Specifically, these appointments encompass responsibilities at the administrative annexes in the Isil area of the Hay Mohammadi district, the Kasbah annex in the Mashour Kasbah, the Hay Hassani annex in the Hay Hassani urban area, the Maata Allah annex in the Menara area, and the Atlas annex in the Tamansourt area, as well as the general secretariat of the Marrakech administration.
During the ceremony, Khalid El Habib, the Wali of the Marrakech-Safi region and Governor of Marrakech, emphasized the crucial role that local authority officials play within the territorial administration framework. He urged the newly appointed officials to embrace a sense of responsibility, discipline, vigilance, and integrity in their duties. Moreover, he highlighted the importance of adopting a policy of proximity, which includes listening to the public and maintaining direct communication with citizens while ensuring their safety and peace of mind.
El Habib also called on the officials to actively support development projects, streamline administrative procedures, and improve the quality of public services. This includes fostering collaboration with various stakeholders to ensure security, stability, effective governance, and the overall welfare of the community. The recent appointments are part of a strategic effort to strengthen the local authority framework in Marrakech and to better prepare for the upcoming electoral challenges.
