New Developments in the Case Against Local Writer of the Socialist Union in Marrakech

This individual is currently facing charges of insulting a legally established authority and producing false content via social media, which is alleged to undermine the integrity of electoral processes. The court case, originally scheduled for hearing on Monday, was pushed to October 19th, as decided by the primary court in Marrakech.
The local party leader became embroiled in legal troubles following a social media post in which he highlighted alleged electoral irregularities in the Sidi Youssef Ben Ali area. On election day, he was summoned by the judicial police for questioning, subsequently leading to his referral to the public prosecutor. The prosecutor opted to allow him to remain free while pursuing the case against him, leading to a court appearance on September 28.
This case falls under new legal provisions concerning digital content related to electoral activities. Specifically, Article 51 of the amended Organic Law No. 53.25, which modifies Organic Law No. 27.11 concerning the House of Representatives, stipulates penalties for anyone who creates false or misleading content—through any medium, including social networks and electronic platforms—with the intent to harm the integrity of electoral processes. Violators may face imprisonment ranging from two to five years, alongside fines ranging from 50,000 to 100,000 dirhams.
